I did a mass send out of query letters last night and I've already received three rejections. Le sigh. It's all been very polite and formal. Thank you for your interest in our agency but we don't feel your story would be a good fit...yadda, yadda.
I'm only upset about one of those rejections. I had two agencies picked out in my head that I dreamed of working with. One never got back to me (so I guess I can count that as four rejections). And the agency that rejected my story today was the other one I was hoping to get in with. I thought it would take weeks to hear back from them and it took them less than 24 hrs to give me the big fat no.
Ah well. C'est la vie, right? If it happens with this book, it'll happen. If not, I have a notepad full of story ideas I want to explore. There are two stories in particular that I want to write.
And I haven't ruled out self-publishing my story either. But I really need to research that more. I'd have to hire a graphic artist for the cover, figure out the cost of putting the story in book form instead of only offering an ebook option, and I need an editor. I have no idea how to find one either. If anyone knows how to go about acquiring an editor, please let me know.
In the meantime, I've got an unopened bag of Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs handy and Glee season one on DVD. I think I might throw myself a little pity party/celebration for at least sending out my letters tonight. And since Fox seems to be holding new Glee episodes hostage (seriously it's been over a month since the last new one...the evil bastards), I guess I'll have to watch the old episodes until the show returns next week. Let the party begin!
